KOTA BHARU, Jan 22 (Bernama) -- The noble intentions of a traffic police personnel. Constable Muhammad Zulhairie Nayan, 28, to ferry an elderly lady from Jalan Merbau to Muhammadi Mosque has been acknowledged by Kelantan senior police officials.
Muhammad Zulhairie said he had seen the old lady walking alone trying to cross the street and found out she was heading to the mosque, which was about a kilometre away.
"I stopped to help her as I saw she was elderly and alone,” he told reporters after receiving a certificate of appreciation at the Kelantan police contingent headquarters’ monthly gathering today.
His act of kindness was captured in a 27-second video that went viral on Facebook on Jan 17, with many netizens showering praise.
Muhammad Zulhairie, who works in the Kota Bharu district police headquarters Traffic Enforcement and Investigations Division said that he was on patrol around the area at that time..
"It didn’t cross my mind that my act would go viral as I view it as a normal thing for a police personnel to help the public,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kelantan police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun that Muhammad Zulhairie deserved praise for providing assistance no matter the situation.
"All personnel and officers are recommended to do so as it is a noble act and shows that the police are always ready to come to the public’s aid,” he added.
