KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 1 (Bernama) -- The Sungai Bunus Urban Garden (KBSB), which is surrounded by high-rise buildings, only has an area of 1,114 square metres, but can produce a variety of vegetables and herbs that benefit the surrounding community.
In conjunction with the Federal Territory Day 2024 celebration, the KBSB community organised a cooking competition themed 'From The Garden to The Table,' using the ingredients available in the garden.
KBSB advisor Ahmad Shamsul Baharin Mohd Hanafiah said 12 teams with 24 contestants participated in the contest, guided by celebrity chef Liza Zainol.
"This garden is a collaboration with the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID), and various other stakeholders.
"It is one of our monthly activities that involves the public. We have realised that by gardening on open land, we can create a space that benefits the community," he told Bernama today.
Chef Liza explained that the participants used lemongrass, galangal, turmeric leaves, and ulam raja from the garden, making today's competition unique.
KBSB was developed in 2014 in collaboration with 11 stakeholders including the owners of Expressionz Professional Suites, DBKL's Local Agenda 21 Kuala Lumpur, DID, Librarians Association of Malaysia, the Malaysian National News Agency, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, the International Islamic University of Malaysia, and Yayasan Patriot Negara Malaysia.
