Social Media Platform Can Be Used To Strengthen Unity Among Races

ARAU, Feb 3 (Bernama) -- The development of technology through the social media platform can be used to strengthen racial unity in this country, said National Unity Ministry secretary-general Datuk Azman Mohd Yusof.

He said this platform is able to maintain bonds of friendship even when people are far apart as they can still interact with one another, thus potentially strengthening the relationship of the various races in the country.

"The National Unity Ministry always encourages the community to strive to foster unity between the various races in Malaysia so that we are peaceful and united (country)...so we need technology to (help) strengthen unity," he said when met by reporters at the Pekan Lama Arau Chinese New Year Carnival 2024 here last night .

The Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail officiated the carnival which started yesterday and ends tomorrow.

Also present were the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil and their son Syed Sirajuddin Areeb Putra Jamalullail.

Meanwhile, Azman said the organisation of cultural programmes such as this carnival can instill the values ​​of harmony and mutual respect among various races as people get exposure to the cultures of the different races in this country in a programme like this.

"We know this unity is the core for the country. Therefore, to avoid negative things we have to encourage cultural programmes like this (carnival)," he added.
