Kpj Healthcare Partners With Mayo Clinic For Medical Excellence, Innovations

PETALING JAYA, Feb 16 (Bernama) -- In reaffirming its dedication to advancing medical excellence and patient care innovation, KPJ Healthcare today announced its strategic partnership with Mayo Clinic, a nonprofit American academic medical centre.

KPJ Healthcare president and managing director Chin Keat Chyuan said this historic collaboration also marks Malaysia's first entry into the Mayo Clinic Care Network, and through this partnership, KPJ, via its two hospitals, plans to utilise Mayo Clinic's extensive experience, resources and best practices to enhance its own healthcare expertise and skills.

The two hospitals involved are KPJ Damansara Specialist Hospital (DSH) and KPJ Damansara Specialist Hospital 2 (DSH2). 

“As the largest private hospital network provider in Malaysia, KPJ Healthcare is dedicated to enhancing our services for our patients and what better way to do this than a collaboration with Mayo Clinic, a globally renowned institution in healthcare.

"I am pleased to announce that KPJ Healthcare, through our two hospitals, DSH and DSH2, will be part of the Mayo Clinic Care Network for the next two years. DSH will leverage this collaboration to establish its Oncology Centre as a Centre of Excellence, while DSH2 will focus on Heart and Lung," he added.

He said this during the Announcement of the Strategic Collaboration Between KPJ Healthcare Berhad and Mayo Clinic here today. 

Also present were Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad and Mayo Clinic’s Executive Medical Director for International Practice and Asia Pacific, Dr. Stacey Rizza.

He added that through this strategic collaboration, DSH and DSH2 would gain access to advanced Mayo Clinic clinical tools and services, thereby enhancing medical care and professional development.

“Our doctors at these two hospitals will have access to Mayo Clinic's clinical, educational, research and operational knowledge, resources and expertise. This includes the opportunity for direct consultations with Mayo's experts and physicians, as well as access to Mayo Clinic's cutting-edge research, diagnostic and treatment resources.

"As a result, our patients will benefit immensely, as their KPJ consultants can now seek advice from Mayo counterparts for their cases," he said.

During a press conference, Chin highlighted the collaboration's focus on establishing two centres of excellence in oncology and heart/lung issues to provide world-class healthcare to Malaysian and international patients.

He emphasised the increasing complexity of cancer and premature deaths related to heart and lung issues, expressing hope that the collaboration with Mayo Clinic will address these concerns and deliver top-notch healthcare services.

Meanwhile, Dr. Stacey announced that DSH and DSH2 have been chosen as the inaugural members of the Mayo Clinic Care Network in Malaysia due to their demonstrated commitment to providing the highest quality, patient-centred care.

“Over the past year and a half, as we've familiarised ourselves with your leadership, staff and physicians, we've observed a strong alignment in our values and culture. You have passed Mayo Clinic's evaluation process, which assessed your organisation, clinical and business practices, and efforts in ensuring quality, safety, and service," she said.

She added that through this partnership, healthcare organisations gain access to Mayo Clinic's wealth of medical knowledge and expertise while maintaining autonomy, enabling them to provide the highest level of care to their patients with access to evidence-based disease management protocols and clinical care guidelines.
