Macc, Jan Ink Note To Eradicate Corruption

Putrajaya, Feb 20 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the National Audit Department (JAN) will continue to step up cooperation in the fight against corruption and improve the governance of government agencies.

In a joint statement today, MACC and JAN said the collaboration was sealed via a new Note of Cooperation signed by MACC chief commissioner and Auditor-General Datuk Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi in a ceremony held at MACC headquarters, here, today.

"This new cooperation note focuses on the scope of cooperation covering aspects of the information and knowledge sharing programmes and training between the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Academy (MACA) and the National Audit Academy (AAN).

"The cooperation instrument states the importance to strengthen bilateral cooperation and understanding so that efforts to develop the human capital of officials and the eradication of corruption, including the governance of government agencies, can be effectively improved," said the statement, which also informed that the note to renew the form cooperation which had been signed since 2012.

Meanwhile, Azam Baki when speaking said the cooperation will have a high impact especially to help MACC in supporting the government's efforts towards "a country with integrity and free from corruption".

"This reflects JAN's unwavering commitment to assist MACC in fighting corruption crimes and improve administrative governance, apart from being able to identify and help reduce leakages in the national administration.

"MACC will continue to take steps with full commitment and consistency to eradicate corrupt practices in the government procurement system, avoid leakages and ensure that government procurement is carried out in accordance with the laws and regulations," he said.

According to Azam, MACC and JAN will carry out continuous information sharing to strengthen the involvement of both parties in the early detection of all forms of corruption, abuse of power and malpractices that can affect the image of the government, threaten the well-being of the community, weakens the values of integrity, hinder the development of social, economic and political development of the country.

Meanwhile, Auditor-General Datuk Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi also hoped that the cooperation note could strengthen the bilateral cooperation network of the two institutions as each has an interrelated relationship, role and responsibility.

"Joint training will be designed and implemented by AAN and MACA in joint collaboration in an effort to continuously improve the competence and expertise of both parties' officers," said Wan Suraya.

She said both parties can work together to help officers who are interested in taking other professional qualifications related to auditing such as the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).
