IPOH, Feb 28 (Bernama) -- Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) and Sapura Energy Berhad have solidified their longstanding partnership through the signing of a memorandum of collaboration (MoC) that underscores the dedication of both institutions in fostering academic-industry cooperation.
UTP in a statement today said as well as enhancing the overall educational experience for students, the MoC will encompass key areas such as academic, research, and mobility programmes.
The MoC was signed by UTP Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib and the Dean of the UTP Faculty of Engineering Associate Professor Dr Rosdiazli Ibrahim, while Sapura Energy Berhad was represented by its Chief People Officer Puspa Hanita Abd Aziz and its Head of Human Resource Administration for Lumut Fabrication Unit and Supply Bases Rosdy Abdullah.
According to the statement, in the academic realm, the agreement includes the appointment of industry experts for knowledge sharing whereby Sapura Energy Berhad's involvement as external examiners and industry visits provide students with a practical understanding of real-world applications.
It said that in the field of research, the collaboration will focus on joint research and development activities to address real-world challenges in the energy sector, along with expertise sharing between UTP faculty and Sapura Energy Berhad researchers.
The statement also read that through the MoC, both parties are also committed to jointly developing well-rounded global graduates by providing them with a comprehensive and industry-relevant education.
The collaboration sets the stage for continued growth and innovation, benefiting both institutions and contributing to the development of skilled professionals in the industry.
Meanwhile, Mohamed Ibrahim expresses UTP’s gratitude to Sapura Energy Berhad for the collaborative endeavour, saying that they are indeed excited about the prospects that lie ahead.
“This MoC signifies our commitment to nurturing the next generation of industry-ready graduates. It's a testament to the university’s vision of fostering global graduates equipped to drive change and innovation on an international scale,” he was quoted as saying.
Puspa Hanita, on the other hand, said they strongly believe that the strategic industry-university collaboration is a critical component of the innovation process, providing a symbiosis of benefits to both the university and Sapura Energy Berhad.
She said it is a privilege for Sapura Energy Berhad to work together with UTP, which is the top private university in Malaysia, as one of their important partners.
“This collaboration reinforces academia-industry partnerships that aim to promote, support, transform communities, and catalyse change in technology and TVET as important elements and platforms for all industries today,” she added.
Believing in the strength of synergy, UTP has long established collaborations with local and foreign institutions, and according to the university, it continues to expand its network of industry partners to advance mutual progress.
