Benita Treats 50 Orphans To 'sepatu Raya' Shopping

06/04/2024 03:29 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, April 6 (Bernama) -- A total of 50 girls from Rumah Amal Kasih Bestari Subang were treated to raya shoe shopping under the Sepatu Raya programme by the Association for Women and Wives of Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Employees (Benita), in conjunction with the upcoming Aidilfitri celebration.

Bernama chief executive officer Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin said that the programme is an annual event organised by the association to bring cheer to underprivileged groups such as orphans and asnaf in celebrating Aidilfitri together.

“Alhamdulillah, this morning we feted 50 orphans from the Rumah Amal Kasih Bestari, Kampung Melayu Subang, where they received raya shoes from Benita. This is the 13th programme organised by Benita.

“We treat orphans and asnaf by bringing joy to them to celebrate Aidilfitri. We can see for ourselves that they are (so) happy choosing raya shoes,” she said when met at the programme at the Bata store, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, here, today.

According to her, the contribution is the result of the collection of donations from Bernama staff, launched last month.

“Benita welcomes donations from Bernama staff as well as our members. Alhamdulillah, we collected about RM10,000 this year.

“We do not put any limits on these children to shop as we want to fulfil their wishes and choices today so that they are happy and satisfied with their choices,” she said.

In the meantime, she said that Bernama always conducts various corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes implemented with several strategic partners, especially during Ramadan month.

“For this Ramadan, we have implemented two CSR programmes with our strategic partner CSA Academy to treat orphans from Keramat as well as the Bernama CSR programme at Dataran Putrajaya (as we received donations and support from our strategic partners in the programme),” she said.

Meanwhile, Rumah Amal Kasih Bestari's caretaker Fakhriyah Hazan expressed gratitude to the Bernama staff for efforts and concern in looking after the residents of the welfare home by bringing joy ahead of Aidilfitri celebration.

“Alhamdulillah, 50 children out of 158 children, aged 13 to 19, from the home were treated and received Benita's donation. The children's facial expressions showed happiness when they were given the opportunity to choose their shoes according to their taste,” she said.
