SMART TOILET AT SK TANAH HITAM FOR STUDENT COMFORT, INSTIL DISCIPLINE

IPOH, April 18 (Bernama) -- Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Tanah Hitam in Chemor near here is using advanced technology systems for their toilets to provide comfort to their students.

The headmistress, Aslinda Saari, 53, said that out of the 10 toilets in the school, two of them are equipped with "Smart Toilets" which include features such as radio frequency identification (RFID) scanning machines, closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, infrared sensors, and televisions.

She said the toilets are named Smart Toilet @ SKTH after being equipped with smart control and monitoring systems using the latest technology

She said one of the CCTV cameras is positioned above the RFID scanning machine to record students entering the toilets, and another inside the toilet to record any unwanted incidents such as bullying, vandalism, and fights.

According to her, the accessories for the toilets, which cost about RM3,000, were funded by the school's Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG), while the cost of repairing the toilets utilised an allocation provided by the Ministry of Education

"Thank you PIBG for your contribution to upgrading the toilets, turning them into Smart Toilets. The collection from the PIBG is used for maintaining the toilets as well as installing CCTV and RFID scanner systems," she told Bernama.

Aslinda said the RFID scanning machine used to collect data on students entering the toilets is to prevent the facility from being misused, while the infrared sensor taps are meant to conserve water usage.

“The television is installed to show videos on proper use of toilets, hygiene, and related matters. This is because when we talk to students about cleanliness, they may not fully understand, so through video shows, it helps make students understand better,” she said

Meanwhile, a survey by Bernama at the school, classified as a rural school, found the toilets equipped with the facilities concerned.

Aslinda said what is most important in maintaining the toilets is the implementation of the 3K practices, which are “Kebersihan” (cleanliness), “Keselamatan” (safety) and “Kesihatan” (health).

According to her, the school emerged as the champion of the 3K competition at the state and national level in 2017.

The same year, it also emerged as the winner of the 1Malaysia Toilet Competition organised by the Ipoh City Council (MBI) and in 2019, the school was named the national-level champion of the Cleanest Toilet Competition by KPKT.

Meanwhile, SK Tanah Hitam PIBG chairman Mohd Azam Mohd Saleh, 66, said the PIBG is it is not an association that generates income, but because it wanted the Smart Toilet for the school and the comfort of students, passed the hat around to raise the funds.

Year Three student Muhammad Furqan Hasif Ahmad Hafizal, nine,  said that the clean, beautiful, and fragrant toilets are among the factors that make him more enthusiastic about attending school.

“Alhamdulillah, I feel happy that we have new toilets that are clean, beautiful, and fragrant to use. I feel more motivated to go to school," he said

Another Year Three student, Nur Mirza Zhafrisya Abdul Rahman expressed her pride and joy that her school has Smart Toilets.

“My school toilets are now modern, comfortable, beautiful, and fragrant compared to before. I will make sure they remain clean by flushing them after use,” she said.
