KUALA LUMPUR, May 7 (Bernama) -- The Fighter Interactive Trainer System (FITs) flight simulator developed by the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) will provide the public with the opportunity to experience operating a fighter jet.

The mobile simulator, fully developed by RMAF personnel and the first of its kind in Asia, was designed to provide training for RMAF pilots and is one of the most sought-after attractions whenever it is on show at exhibitions nationwide.

Warrant Office 1 Azean Aliasan said the Hawk208 singles pilot fighter jet simulator uses actual flight cockpit and instruments and was developed in 2016.

"It has since been upgraded to a FITs 2.0 and has an additional seater, monitor and controller for a pilot so that there can be two pilots for the simulator.

"This simulator has also been equipped with a camera (in front of the cockpit) and the point of view on the three-screen monitor will change according to the pilot’s head movement,” she told Bernama.

The simulator was developed as a project by the Innovative and Creative Group (KIK) personnel at the RMAF's Pusat Simulator Pejuang, Butterworth Air Base, Penang and is now exhibited at the Defence Services Asia (DSA) and National Security (NATSEC) Asia 2024 exhibitions here until Thursday (May 9).

According to Azean, the simulator was also showcased at a similar exhibition previously and at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA), Selangor Aviation Show (SAS) and the Lumut RMAF Open Day.

Elaborating, she said the simulator was designed to mirror that of an actual fighter jet using realistic flight training systems, while the flight routes can be changed according to needs.

She said although many were interested in buying the flight simulator, especially the cockpit area and its components, they do not plan to do so for now.

"Certain parties have offered a lucrative price for it but this is a government asset, so we won't sell it,” she said.
