SAUDI GOVT CONDUCTS 32 EXPERIMENTS TO PROVIDE BETTER SERVICES FOR PILGRIMS

MAKKAH, June 15 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Transport for Road Operation and Maintenance of Saudi Arabia has conducted 32 experiments this year as part of their continued efforts to provide efficient and effective services to pilgrims.

Minister Saleh Al-Jasser said 17 of them are operating for the first time, while the rest are experiments expanded from previous ones.

“One of the experiments that worked for the first time is the flying taxi. We also have a drone service to inspect the roads, we have rubber roads, roads covered in white (paint) to reduce the temperature, and we have electronic monitoring systems for buses so that they don’t simply break the traffic law.

“The observer (monitoring system) can identify buses (which break the law), the driver and their licenses,” he said when hosting a visit by a group of international journalists and photographers from 10 news agencies at the ministry’s office today.

Elaborating on the invention and the flying taxi experiment, Saleh said the facility can accommodate two passengers at one time.

He said the aircraft licensed to fly is the first to be licensed by the Civil Aviation Authority.

“We are open to all technologies, meaning we have follow-up in the Ministry of Transport and the Civil Aviation Authority for all available (flight) models so that we try them out and choose what suits the operational tasks,” he added.

Saleh also said that many new ideas are being evaluated to be transformed into applications to serve all pilgrims better.
