KUALA LUMPUR, June 15 (Bernama) -- Those celebrating Aidiladha are spending the weekend purchasing necessities in preparation for the upcoming Aidiladha celebrations on Monday.

A walkabout by Bernama at the Tasik Sri Rampai Farmers’ Market here found that people began visiting the Special Semarak Aidiladha Sales Programme here after dawn, despite the rainy weather.

Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) manager (operations) Muhd Nur As Dhabah said that more than 200 combo sets containing half a chicken, onions, ginger, lemongrass and torch ginger, priced at RM10, were sold out at Kuala Lumpur wholesale market,.

"We also sold combo sets containing two packets of cooking oil along with watermelon at the same price.

"In addition, 340 bags of local rice, each weighing 10 kilogrammes (kg), were brought to the farmers’ market today and sold at RM26 per bag," he told Bernama at the farmers’ market, which has been operating for the past three months.

Meanwhile, beef trader Osman Abdul Khalid, 28, said that the market was crowded with people as early as after dawn.

"Today, we have already sold more than 200 kg of beef. We did not raise the prices even with Aidiladha approaching for the convenience of all our customers.

"For tenderloin, we are maintaining the price at RM48 per kg while sirloin is just RM55 per kg," he said.

Housewife Faridah Ahmad, 50, said she took the opportunity to buy items such as chicken, meat and vegetables in preparation for the Aidiladha celebrations with her children who have come home for the holidays.

Meanwhile, a massive 800 kg cow dubbed ‘lembu sado’ was transferred from Ibnu Mas'ud Mosque along Jalan Damai to Tun Ibrahim Camp, Kajang, Selangor, on a three-tonne Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) truck this morning.

It was part of the Qurban Perdana 2024 programme organised by Ikhlas Com Travel & Umrah Sdn Bhd (ikhlas.com) in conjunction with the annual Aidiladha celebrations.

Yusri Adam, Commercial and Lifestyle Manager at ikhlas.com, said that the transfer and transportation of the Sado cow were carried out with the help of ikhlas.com staff, volunteers and the congregation of Ibnu Mas'ud Mosque.
