MAKKAH, June 17 (Bernama) -- Photographers and cameramen from 10 international news agencies were taken on a helicopter ride today to capture the aerial view of holy sites in Makkah, visited by pilgrims during their haj pilgrimage.

These holy sites include Arafah, Muzdalifah, Mina and Masjidil Haram.

The Plain of Arafah is where pilgrims converge to begin their haj rituals with wukuf before spending the night in Muzdalifah and then heading to Mina for the jamrah or the stoning rituals. The Masjidil Haram is where pilgrims perform the tawaf and sa’ie.

While flying over the Plain of Arafah, the area appeared deserted compared to the day of wukuf on 9 Zulhijjah, when more than 1.8 million pilgrims gathered there.

Muzdalifah, located between Mina and Arafah, is also now quiet as the pilgrims have left for Mina to perform the stoning rituals.

Muzdalifah is the third holy site visited by pilgrims during the haj after Masjidil Haram and Arafah, and this is where they collect pebbles to carry to Mina.

Haj pilgrims are now in Mina to perform the three jamrah, which started yesterday on 10 Zulhijjah and will conclude on 13 Zulhijjah.

Meanwhile, the Grand Mosque remains crowded with millions of pilgrims performing tawaf ifadah, umrah or praying in congregation at this holiest site.
