SESB MOVING TOWARDS USE OF SMART METERS - MADIUS

18/06/2024 04:06 PM

KOTA KINABALU, June 18 (Bernama) -- Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) chairman Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau said SESB is in the process of moving towards the use of smart meters to record the amount of electricity used in each premises and residence in Sabah and Labuan.

He said that as such, SESB has opened a tender to invite qualified companies to make the initiative a success.

“The tender was opened on April 16 2024 and closed on June 12. Currently, it is in the tender analysis process before it is presented to the Management Tender Committee and, subsequently to the Board’s Procurement and Finance Committee,” he said in a statement commenting on the recommendations by National Consumer Foundation of Malaysia (YPNM) Sabah chairman David Chan.

Madius said David’s proposal for the government to use the smart meter was appropriate as it has various benefits and advantages compared to conventional meters.

“SESB is indeed moving in that direction and, hopefully, all the processes being implemented will run smoothly,” he said.

The Tuaran Member of Parliament also encouraged the public and users to download and register the mySESB application on their mobile phones.

"Through this application, various services can be obtained at the click of a button, including access to the latest bill statement and making bill payments directly into the SESB system.

"Users can also get the latest information related to maintenance, file complaints and check the action status, apply for a new meter and many more,” he added.

He said the mySESB service is an initiative to enable customers to sort out any matters without having to queue up at the SESB counters or kiosks.

"But, for now, of the 696,711 SESB users, only 112,835 people have registered. As such, we hope more people will do so,” he said.
