JASIN, June 19 (Bernama) -- The Sungai Rambai D’Bendang Carnival 2024, set to be held in Kampung Parit Penghulu Benteng here from July 26 to 28, aims to attract around 20,000 visitors.

Sungai Rambai assemblyman Siti Faizah Abd Azis said the carnival, now in its second year and held in conjunction with Visit Melaka Year 2024 (TMM2024), will feature 40 events including traditional sports.

"We are also collaborating with Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) to organise a straw arch competition, targeting participation from 15 teams of students from public and private institutions of higher learning across the country.

"The carnival is scheduled to be officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. To enhance the event, we have invited around 120 local authorities (PBT) from across the country and abroad, such as the United Kingdom and Australia, to participate," she said.

She told this to reporters at the 'Korban dan Kenduri Rakyat' programme organised by the Sungai Rambai Development and Coordination Committee (Japerun) here today.

Siti Faizah, who is also State Health, Human Resources and Unity Committee deputy chairman, said that following the success of last year’s D'Bendang Carnival, which had a positive impact, various facilities and infrastructure in the padi cultivation areas have been upgraded, including road widening and new streetlights.

She added that the carnival also aims to introduce Sungai Rambai as an agrotourism area capable of attracting more tourists from within and outside the country to enjoy the scenic beauty and unique culture, thus enhancing the socio-economic status of the residents.

"We have also discussed with UPM to designate Sungai Rambai as an adopted village, turning it into an Agro Village or Agricultural Village through collaborations in related fields.

"...this includes a collaboration with UPM through the International Institute of Aquaculture and Aquatic Sciences (I-AQUAS) to establish a research and breeding centre for marine life such as shrimp, fish and crabs in Sebatu," she said.
