GOVERNMENT ASSURES THIJARI APP IS SAFE

28/06/2024 05:32 PM

ALOR SETAR, June 28 (Bernama) -- The government has given assurance that the THiJARI app run by the Pilgrims Fund Board (TH) is safe for use amid ongoing reforms to improve it.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said depositors need not worry about the reforms as there was no evidence that the app had been hacked, resulting in the loss of their savings.

“So far, we have received 222 complaints, all involving scammers and negligence on the part of the depositors.

“So, we are making improvements to the THiJARI app…and we are also taking extra initiatives to strengthen the safety aspects of the app,” he told reporters after launching the second phase of the public tuition project (PINTAR) by Koperasi Anak Kedah Berhad here today.

Zulkifli said the department is also working with the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to deal with the issue.

“TH is making several improvements with passwords and security settings, but the onus is still on the depositors themselves to avoid being easily deceived by scammers,” he said.

Zulkifli also reminded depositors not to click on links from unknown sources or those that offer lucrative investment returns or provide personal information to other parties.

Yesterday, during the Dewan Rakyat Special Chamber session, Zulkifli reportedly said there was no evidence to confirm that the THiJARI application service was hacked causing depositors to lose their savings.

Instead, he said TH's investigation revealed that depositors who experienced financial losses were victims of scams perpetrated by third parties through various methods, such as offers promising high investment returns, links to download unauthorised application files and divulging passwords and transaction verification codes (TAC) to scammers when contacted.
