NORANIZA IDRIS RETURNS TO THE STAGE WITH QALAM CONCERT

28/06/2024 06:09 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, June 28 (Bernama) -- In a bid to revive traditional rhythms, Malaysia’s Queen of Rhythms Noraniza Idris will stage the 'Qalam Noraniza Idris' concert at Panggung Bangsawan in Melaka from Sept 27 to 29.

The concert is being held in conjunction with the celebration of three decades of ‘Irama Malaysia’ or Malaysian Rhythms. Featuring a 'concert in a competition' concept, the show will also see about 400 participants of national traditional dance competitions accompanying the ‘Dikir Puteri’ singer during her performances.

Noraniza said the concert is part of her efforts to revitalise the irama Malaysia industry, which has become quieter, especially after the demise of composer Datuk Suhaimi Mohd Zain, also known as Pak Ngah.

"We used to have Pak Ngah, but now he's gone. Who will develop it, are we just going to give up?

"I feel like I have to do something. The irama Malaysia genre needs a courageous driver to move forward," she told Bernama recently after a press conference to announce the Qalam Noraniza Idris concert.

Noraniza said the upcoming concert, organised by Persatuan Tatihseni Malaysia in collaboration with the National Department for Culture and Arts Melaka, will make up for the disappointment she experienced when her solo concert, Malai Solo, had to be cancelled two years ago.

“This concert will gather dancers of various ages from across the country who will be divided into three categories: seven to 12 years old (primary school), 13 to 17 years old (secondary school), and 17 years old and above (open category).

"Throughout the three-day concert, I will be the main singer, and the dancers will accompany my performances," she said.

On her preparations for the concert, Noraniza said she is currently on a diet and exercising regularly to lose weight, and also attending vocal classes.

"I need to lose at least 10 kilogrammes. I have a coach monitoring my diet.

"I am worried about performing on stage as I've gotten used to working behind the scenes and haven't performed (given lengthy performances) in a long time. There's a feeling of anxiety and concern, thinking about what will happen," she said.

Tickets to the Qalam Noraniza Idris concert, priced between RM99 and RM249, are available at www.ilassotickets.com.
