KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 (Bernama) -- The debut appearance of a robot dog known as Robo Dog at the National Training Week (NTW) 2024 carnival at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium here has captivated the attention of visitors, especially children.

Petrosains Learning Delivery Outreach Executive Mohd Faisal Mat Isa said Robo Dog was brought to the two-day carnival, which started yesterday, to introduce the latest technology, particularly in the engineering industry, to the public.

"Nowadays, many tasks are performed using robots, so this is one way to expose children and young people to such technology, encouraging their interest in science and technology activities and programmes.

"Robo Dog is one of the latest technologies used by some agencies as an aid for performing tasks in risky and inaccessible areas for humans.

"For example, in oil rigs, Robo Dog is used to inspect areas with gas leaks or other hazards that are dangerous for workers," he told Bernama when met at the carnival here today.

Robo Dog, standing at about 15 inches tall, is controlled using a remote control. It can move similarly to a real dog, capable of walking, running, jumping, sitting, or transitioning to a lying position.

Additionally, Mohd Faisal said his team has provided Virtual Reality (VR) tours of Petrosains in conjunction with NTW.

"VR offers visitors an overview of various exciting programmes available at Petrosains, allowing them to experience a virtual tour," he said.

He added that the public also has the opportunity to learn how to operate drone simulations digitally and participate in mind-challenging puzzle activities.

National Training Week 2024, organised by the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) under the Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA), has been taking place nationwide since June 24, with the event at Bukit Jalil National Stadium starting yesterday.

NTW 2024 aims to instill a culture of lifelong learning among the people by providing opportunities to enhance skills and learning for free.
