KOTA KINABALU, July 11 (Bernama) -- The Sabah Industry Development and Entrepreneurship (MIDE) has set a target of RM50 million for the potential sales value of small and medium enterprise (SME) entrepreneurs in the state this year, the Sabah state assembly was told today.

Its state assistant minister, Datuk Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy said the target is higher than last year’s achievement of RM30.25 million.

“If we can achieve this target, the estimated percentage of potential sales value can be raised by 40 per cent compared to last year.

“Also the expos that we have and will participate in this year include Gulfood Expo in Dubai; Foodex in Tokyo; Thaifex Anuga Asia in Bangkok; World’s Food Expo in Manila; HKTDC Food Expo Pro in Hong Kong; and MIHAS @Dubai,” he said in reply to an oral question by Datuk Suhaimi Nasir (appointed assemblyman) about the ministry’s efforts to raise SMEs in Sabah.

He added that state SMEs managed to generate counter sales of RM830,000 and potential sales of RM30.3 million after joining six expos, which has surpassed last year’s achievement.

Andi Muhammad Suryady also shared that the Sabah state government, together with local Chinese non-governmental organisations (NGO) and Chinese Chambers of Commerce would organise the Sabah-China Business Summit 2024 (SCBS2024) from Nov 22 to 24 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), Kota Kinabalu.

“The programme is in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Malaysia and China, specifically Sabah and China.

“I hope all SME entrepreneurs, especially in Sabah, will make full use of existing opportunities, such as programmes, courses and aid prepared by the ministry so that they can compete globally and boost Sabah’s economy,” he added.
