TONY PARKER NAMED GLOBAL AMBASSADOR FOR ALIBABA.COM'S OLYMPIC GAMES PARIS 2024 CAMPAIGN

KUALA LUMPUR, July 12 (Bernama) -- Alibaba.com has announced four-time NBA champion and two-time Olympian Tony Parker as the Global Ambassador for its “Same Player, New Game” creative campaign for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. 

The campaign aims to highlight the opportunities for athletes to transition from sporting success to entrepreneurship.

As Alibaba.com’s Global Ambassador, Parker will demonstrate how aspiring entrepreneurs can leverage the platform to establish supply chains, connect with buyers and sellers globally, and drive business growth.

“Since retiring from professional sport, I’ve focused all my energy on running my own businesses. I’m a regular buyer on Alibaba.com and have seen first-hand the huge value that can be created by connecting with suppliers and efficiently sourcing products through its innovative digital platform.

“Now, in my role as an ambassador for Alibaba.com, I will use my personal experience to help other athletes embark upon their entrepreneurial journeys and enjoy a successful second career,” he said in a statement issued by Alibaba.com.

Parker, who played for France in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, is a six-time NBA All-Star, and has successfully transitioned to a career as an entrepreneur and investor.

Joining him in the campaign are Simona Galik Moore, a former Women’s Tennis Association professional, and Elias Schwärzler, a Guinness World Record-holding Mountain biker. Both athletes have launched successful businesses using Alibaba.com.

The campaign will feature the ambassadors in various promotional activities leading up to and during the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. A high-profile press event is scheduled for July 31 in Paris to share more about their journeys from sports to business.

Meanwhile, Global Head of Marketing at Alibaba.com, Liz Wang emphasised the campaign’s goal of showcasing the traits needed for both sports and entrepreneurship, highlighting the platform’s role in supporting former professional sports people in their entrepreneurial ventures.

“To reach the pinnacle of your sport, you need to be self-motivated, disciplined, resilient and competitive - all traits that are also needed to be a successful entrepreneur,” added Wang.

For more information, fans can look forward to the launch of the brand campaign this month, which will showcase Alibaba.com’s innovative approach to business and the inspiring stories of its Global Ambassadors.
