YKM TO HOLD FAMILY RUN TO RAISE FUNDS TO HELP COVID-19 ORPHANS

KUALA LUMPUR, July 19 (Bernama) -- Yayasan Keluarga Malaysia (YKM) aims to collect RM1.5 million through the Larian Keluarga Malaysia (LKM) 2024 on Sept 29 to help those who have lost their parents due to COVID-19.

YKM chairman Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said they are targeting 3,000 runners for the maiden run event at Persiaran Floria in Cyberjaya.

He said that, so far, the foundation has identified 6,000 children who have lost their parents since the COVID-19 pandemic hit the country four years ago.

"We provide them with a contribution of RM2,000 three times a year. To help reduce the burden on the government, we have agreed to raise extra funds in addition to that given by the government. I want to thank Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for agreeing to contribute RM5 million a year,” he told a media conference on LKM 2024 here today.

Ismail Sabri said the children will receive financial assistance until they finish schooling or reach 18.

At the media conference, he also introduced Khairy Jamaluddin as the ambassador for the run, which will be divided into three categories, the 5-kilometre Fun Run; 10km Open and Veteran; and 21km Open and Veteran.

The registration fees are RM45 for the 5km run, RM65 (10km) and RM85 (21km). As part of its promotion, the first 2,000 participants only need to pay RM39 for the 5km run, RM59 (10km) and RM79 (21km).
