ALOR SETAR, July 21 (Bernama) -- Tourists visiting the Kota Setar district can now access information and references about attractions in and around Alor Setar and Pokok Sena at the Alor Setar City Council (MBAS) Tourism Information Centre.

State Tourism, Culture and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman, Datuk Mohd Salleh Saidin said that the centre, located at Dataran Medan Bandar Alor Setar, is expected to further promote the 'Mai Singgah Alor Setar 2024' programme and the Visit Kedah 2025 campaign.

"An individual's interest in a place starts with the information they receive; it is this interest that drives them to visit...hence, we need to provide all necessary information for tourists.

"The establishment of this centre by MBAS is a commendable initiative, enabling easy access to all tourism-related information for both domestic and international tourists, particularly in Alor Setar and Kedah," he said after launching the MBAS Tourism Information Centre here today.

He emphasised that attracting more tourists to Kedah requires commitment and collaboration from all parties, ensuring cleanliness and beauty are maintained at their best, which should be a priority for all Local Authorities (PBT).

"Efforts to boost the tourism sector in the state require the commitment and collaboration of all parties, and I hope every tourist visiting Kedah will receive the best service, full of warmth and hospitality," he added.

Meanwhile, Alor Setar Mayor Datuk Mohd Yusri Md Daud said that “for now, information and details are provided in Malay, but soon we will provide them in bilingual format to facilitate tourists from abroad.

"In 2022 and 2023, it is estimated that over 665,000 tourists visited Alor Setar based on hotel accommodation records...I believe the number of tourist arrivals will increase this year as there are still many exciting programmes planned for the remaining half year."

The Mai Singgah Alor Setar 2024 programme and Visit Kedah 2025 introduced by the state government are efforts to enhance the tourism industry towards hosting Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
