PASIR PUTEH, July 21 (Bernama) -- The Kemasin Semerak Integrated Agriculture Development Area (IADA) has applied for a RM40 million allocation from the federal government to resolve the irrigation issues affecting padi fields in Gong Manok, Semerak here, according to a Kelantan state executive councillor.

State Agriculture, Agri-food Industry and Commodity Committee chairman Tuan Mohd Saripudin Tuan Ismail said if the allocation is obtained, it can solve the development and drainage problems in the area, which are affecting around 200 farmers over an area of 324 hectares.

"The area is currently facing insufficient water supply and inadequate drainage. According to the information received, IADA has applied for the allocation from the government to address this issue.

"The Kelantan government has provided an immediate allocation of RM50,000 for cleaning the drainage system, including tube well supplies.

“So far, the farmers in the area have only been relying on rainwater. If the problem is resolved, they will be able to harvest rice for up to two seasons," he told reporters at the Kuboid Artificial Reef Deployment Programme (Conservation) in Tok Bali waters here today.
