SAILING ATHLETE NUR ADLINA NASREEN AIMS TO MAKE FINAL SUKMA OUTING COUNT

PADANG BESAR, July 23 (Bernama) -- Perlis sailing athlete Nur Adlina Nasreen Mohd Nasri hopes that her hard work will pay off handsomely at the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2024 in Sarawak, as it will be her last SUKMA appearance.

Nur Adlina Nasreen, 20, is optimistic about winning a gold medal as a parting gift for Perlis, saying her preparations for the games have reached 85 per cent.

"The upcoming SUKMA will be my second and last, so I will perform my best to bring glory to Perlis and as a gift to all those who have supported me to this level," she said when met by Bernama recently.

She said her international triumphs in the ILCA 6 Women’s event in Vietnam last year and the 3rd Langkawi Youth Sailing Championship 2024 have motivated her to do well in SUKMA.

"After the last SUKMA (2022), I started preparing for the upcoming SUKMA. I have also undergone intensive training for six months in Langkawi with my national coach.

"I also had a month of intensive training with an international coach. I will try to improve and adapt when I arrive in Miri later. God willing, I will do my best," she said.

The Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris student urges the younger generation interested in sailing or other sports to strike a balance between education and sports for a better future.

Meanwhile, Perlis State Sports Council director Mohd Azraai Zain Tusimin said they are very hopeful that Nur Adlina Nasreen can do her best while motivating young talents in the sport.

"We hope for the best for her, as she acts as the backbone of this sailing sport and is expected to motivate the team and young talents. We are aiming for one gold in this sport," he said.
