KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 (Bernama) -- Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) deputy vice-chancellor (Academic and International) Prof Ts Dr Mohd Zamri Ibrahim has been appointed as the university's sixth vice-chancellor for a two-year period, from Aug 1, 2024 to July 31, 2026.
In a statement, the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) said the appointment was to replace the previous vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mazlan Abd Ghaffar.
"Mohd Zamri’s appointment as vice-chancellor of UMT is seen to continue the agenda of empowering UMT as the main leader in the field of marine science and aquatic resources in the country, thus being able to drive the economic development of the community through the Blue Economy (initiative)," according to the statement.
Mohd Zamri obtained a bachelor's degree from the University of Sunderland, United Kingdom in 1995; a master's degree from the University of Warwick, United Kingdom in 1997; and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysiain in 2006.
He began as a junior lecturer at UMT in 1998 and was entrusted with holding various administrative positions, including dean of the UMT Faculty of Science and Technology in 2010 and UMT Laboratory Centre director in 2012.
He also held the position of dean of UMT's Faculty of Marine Engineering and Informatics Technology in 2019 before being appointed UMT's deputy vice-chancellor (Academic and International) in 2020.
