PORT DICKSON, July 25 (Bernama) -- Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (PAAB), through its Green Mosque Campaign, has allocated RM12,500 to upgrade the water facilities at Masjid Kariah Kampung Jimah Lama, near here.

Its chief executive officer (CEO) Ir Zulkiflee Omar explained that in collaboration with the Malaysia Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC), they have implemented several improvements at the mosque. These enhancements include the installation of water-efficient taps, a rainwater harvesting system (RHS), and new distribution and pressure systems.

He said that the Green Mosque Campaign, a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, builds on the success of the programme implemented in Melaka in 2022, and in Kelantan the following year. The total cost for the three projects, including this one, amounts to RM97,500.

“This initiative aims to transform the mosque into a catalyst for environmental sustainability. Water usage is crucial in a mosque, encompassing ablutions, bathing the deceased, toilet facilities, and cleaning tasks,” he said to reporters after officiating the PAAB 2024 Green Mosque Campaign CSR programme, which was also attended by MGTC Group CEO, Ts Shamsul Bahar Mohd Nor.

Zulkiflee said that the installation of the rainwater harvesting system (RHS) at the mosque enables rainwater to be utilised for cleaning purposes. Additionally, the new distribution system and pumps address weak water pressure in certain areas, enhancing the ablution process and facilitating congregants in their worship.

“The enhancement of these facilities is overseen by MGTC, which ensures ongoing compliance with green standards until it receives a diamond award through the 2030 Low Carbon Challenge programme,” he said.

Furthermore, PAAB has allocated RM5,000 to the mosque to promote the adoption of sustainable practices among the congregants in their daily routines.
