PUTRAJAYA, July 30 (Bernama) -- Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg today received the Malaysia Board of Technologists' (MBOT) Technology Leadership Award.
The award is a significant recognition of Abang Johari’s contributions in the field of technology development and the green hydrogen sector.
Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang presented the award to Abang Johari during the MBOT Experts Network in Technology, Innovation and Cooperative Event (ENTICE) here today.
MBOT president Prof Datuk Dr Siti Hamisah Tapsir when announcing the award said Abang Johari was a true pioneer of technological advancement.
“Under his leadership, Sarawak is making significant strides in the green hydrogen sector by forming partnerships for projects which include the development of large-scale hydrogen plants. This move is part of a broader effort to transition to sustainable energy sources and reduce carbon emissions,” she said.
Speaking to reporters after the event, Abang Johari said he was grateful for the recognition and dedicates the award to the people of Sarawak.
“I am humbled by the recognition from MBOT. Actually, this is a collective effort with my team in Sarawak working with our national policy of building up skills,” he said.
“Whatever that we do, I believe that the process must be efficient and this process is driven by latest technology advancement. What we have done is to identify the available resources in Sarawak and to add value to the resources based on the current technology available.”
Earlier in his keynote speech, Abang Johari shared the state’s efforts to lead the digital economy as well as in environmental sustainability and energy transition programmes.
Among them were the Sarawak Artificial Intelligence (AI) Centre to focus on AI research and boost local talent and Sarawak Linking Urban, Rural and Nation (SALURAN) that aims to provide high-speed Internet and boost the digital economy.
