LABUAN, Aug 1 (Bernama) -- Kampung Belukut, Federal Territories’ first Kampung Angkat MADANI, is on track to achieve significant development with a RM3 million allocation dedicated to enhancing basic amenities in the village.

This initiative aims to bring Kampung Belukut, located near the end of Labuan Island, on par with other villages in the island through a series of infrastructure projects.

The declaration of Kampung Belukut as a MADANI Foster Village (Kampung Angkat MADANI) was announced in May by the Department of Federal Territories (JWP) Director-General, Datuk Noridah Abdul Rahim.

The designation is based on criteria set by the Ministry of Finance (MoF), focusing on villages with basic facilities at a 50 percent level that require maintenance and upgrades to meet current standards.

Its Village Head Asmadi Ahmad expressed gratitude for the support from JWP and the Government, stating, “On behalf of the villagers, we must thank the JWP and the Government for turning our village into a MADANI Foster Village, having necessary basic amenities in place.”

He said the approved projects for Kampung Belukut include the upgrading of a "balai raya" [community hall], construction of an open space hall, concrete village roads, signage for all junctions, a community orchard and upgrading a futsal court.

“These improvements aim to provide villagers with essential facilities and promote community engagement,” he said adding that other initiatives involve bringing digital economic development and improved internet connectivity to the village.

Labuan Corporation (LC) chief executive officer Rithuan Ismail emphasised the importance of these developments, stating, “We are fully aware of the lack of infrastructure in the village, and the government is doing its best to provide necessary facilities in the village.

“The basic amenities and development projects are in the interest of the villagers.”

He said the Kampung Angkat MADANI initiative reflects a broader commitment to rural development, aiming to create vibrant and sustainable communities across Malaysia.

“With these enhancements, Kampung Belukut is set to become a model village, showcasing the benefits of targeted investment in rural areas.

“The ongoing development of Kampung Belukut marks a significant milestone in the village’s history, promising a brighter future for its residents and setting a precedent for other villages seeking similar transformation,” he said.
