N. Sembilan Strengthens TVET, Ensures Pathways For Students Beyond SPM

05/08/2024 01:00 PM

SEREMBAN, Aug 5 (Bernama) -- The Negeri Sembilan government is actively strengthening the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector to provide opportunities for students who do not excel in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations to continue their education.

State Education Action Committee chairman Datuk Ismail Lasim said various initiatives have been introduced, including promoting TVET in schools, establishing the TVET Legislative Council and TVET Executive Committee, and collaborating with relevant ministries.

“The SPM results in Negeri Sembilan have shown continuous improvement. Last year, out of 14,158 candidates, 631 achieved grades A+, A, and A-, compared to 533 candidates in 2022.

“For those who do not excel academically, TVET provides an opportunity for students to continue their education in the field of skills," he said during the State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.

He said this in his reply to a supplementary question from Datuk ZaifulBahri Idris (BN-Chembong) who wanted to know the state government's efforts to help students who did not excel in SPM to continue their education.

In the meantime, Ismail said the state's SPM 2023 achievement performance recorded better results with a state average grade (GPN) of 4.33 points compared with 4.50 points in SPM 2022.

He added that the gap between urban and rural areas is narrowing, with a difference rate of 0.01 points between SPM 2023 and 2022.
