LZS Simplifies Medical Assistance For Asnaf In Selangor Via Digitisation

06/08/2024 05:49 PM

SHAH ALAM, Aug 6 (Bernama) -- The Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) has entered into a cooperation agreement with MEDKAD Sdn Bhd to leverage a digital initiative that enhances medical assistance and streamlines the zakat application process.

LZS chief executive officer Mohd Sabirin Mohd Sarbini said the initiative will be implemented via the Electronic Medical Aid System known as Al-Amal, developed by MEDKAD.

He said the Al-Amal Medical Assistance System is expected to be fully implemented for managing asnaf medical assistance applications at LZS by early 2025, following a pilot phase in Petaling district starting this November.

“Under the Go Digital thrust of the LZS Strategic Plan 2023-2025, LZS focuses on developing and utilising digital platforms to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of zakat distribution, particularly in medical assistance.

“Al-Amal, developed for LZS and integrated with the existing LZS Electronic Zakat Online (eZO) system, allows medical assistance applications to be completed digitally, reducing the need for physical forms and manual processing,” he said during the signing ceremony of the E-Medicine Digital Initiative Strategic Cooperation Agreement between LZS and MEDKAD here today.

The agreement was signed by Mohd Sabirin and MEDKAD CEO Ezuan Yaacob, and witnessed by LZS LZS Medical Advisory Committee chairman Datuk Dr Tunku Muzafar Shah Tunku Jaafar Laksamana.

Mohd Sabirin said that currently, LZS processes assistance applications through 553 appointed medical panels across Selangor, handling nearly 3,500 claims manually each month.

He said as of 2023, LZS had distributed over RM51 million in medical assistance to 11,000 asnaf (those eligible to receive zakat or tithe).

“LZS’ partnership with Medkad marks a significant move towards digitisation, enhancing sustainability by reducing paper usage and printed materials, improving data management, and implementing automation to lessen reliance on manual labour and minimise errors

“This initiative also supports environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) practices and is in line with the aspirations of the UN SDG (the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals) 2023,” he said.
