KOTA KINABALU, Aug 6 (Bernama) -- The Sabah State Excellence Scholarship Award (BCNS), presented by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor today, offers a glimmer of hope for Sabah’s students, particularly those from the B40 group, to realise their dreams.

Rory Mae Stanley, 18, who scored 10A’s in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination, admitted that she almost abandoned her ambition of studying medicine due to financial concerns, but the scholarship has now made it possible for her to pursue it.

Expressing her gratitude to Hajiji, the Sabah government and Yayasan Sabah, Rory vowed to work hard to make Sabah proud and hopes to contribute back to the state after completing her studies.

“I’m currently pursuing A-levels at Yayasan UEM College and will make the most of this opportunity to realise my ambition of becoming a doctor,” she told Bernama.

Rory was among 40 students who received the BCNS from Hajiji at the scholarship award ceremony here.

Muhammad Arif Abdul Wahab, 18, who also scored 10A’s in SPM, said the scholarship has significantly eased the financial burden on his parents, who are supporting his education and that of his siblings.

“This scholarship has motivated me to excel in my studies and pursue my dream of becoming an accountant. I will not waste this opportunity to achieve my goal,” he said.

Liu Shan Zhui, 18, another SPM top scorer with 10A’s, shared that her mother’s advice to work hard will be a guiding principle as she continues her studies at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

“I aspire to become a pharmacist, and with this scholarship, I hope to realise my dream and make my parents proud,” she said.
