BAGAN DATUK, Aug 6 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) is organising a two-day 2024 MADANI Village Adoption (KAM) 'gotong-royong' programme in Kampung Sungai Betul here, beginning today.

Its village community division secretary, Che Mohd Zulkifli Ismail said the programme is a collaboration between KKDW and the Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK) of Kampung Sungai Betul, Sultan Idris University of Education (UPSI) and Mara University of Technology (UiTM) Perak branch, Tapah and Seri Iskandar campus.

He said a total of 278 people comprising students, lecturers, and staff from three public institutions of higher learning (IPTA), together with representatives of government agencies, had gathered to do a gotong- royong in the village area.

"A total of 97 students out of the total are also involved in the 'Program Anak Angkat KAM@KKDW' to be with foster families.

"Apart from carrying out activities to clean up the village areas such as mosques, religious schools, old folks’ homes, and the beach at Beting Beras Basah, activities were also held to install signs in the village and paint murals," he told Bernama after officiating the programme here today.

Kampung Sungai Betul, chosen as a KAM by KKDW, was given an allocation of RM2.5 million to ensure that the village's basic infrastructure needs can be increased by the end of this year.

Che Mohd Zulkifli hopes that the programme can encourage and foster the culture of volunteerism in students.

Meanwhile, a participant from UiTM Perak branch campus, Muhammad Mutta'al Sidek, 20, said the organisation of the programme can make IPTA students more responsible and help them get involved in community activities, in addition to giving them new experiences.

"I am very excited to be involved in this programme. It is able to give us exposure to the way of life of the community here, and at the same time we can contribute something to them," he said.

Another student Ng Zhen Fan Shankar, 25, from UPSI said, the organisation of the programme was in line with the MADANI government's desire to uphold the spirit of unity and harmony among the communities, especially young people.

Ng said the programme also gave participants exposure to the history, culture and uniqueness of the state, in addition to educating students on the importance of applying tradition and heritage especially in Bagan Datuk.

"I believe this programe has an impact on the community where they can learn more about the heritage and traditions of the community here," he said.

Kampung Sungai Betul JPKK chairman Mad Sahril Ahmad said his team expressed their gratitude and thanks to KKDW for choosing the village as a KAM.

"The presence of students from UiTM and UPSI as adopted children is welcomed by the residents of Kampung Sungai Betul, in addition to giving their contribution to this village," he added.
