PENAMPANG, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- The Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) 2024 plays a crucial role in the government's efforts to continuously foster a sense of patriotism and love for the country and the Jalur Gemilang, especially among the younger generation.

Sabah Information Department (JaPen) director Jainisah Mohd Noor, said that to realise this goal, they were working to bring KMJG 2024 to all 25 districts in Sabah to ensure residents experience the spirit firsthand.

She noted that KMJG 2024 was also essential in helping residents understand the meaning of independence so that the unity can be maintained, particularly in Sabah, which has people of diverse ethnicities and religions.

"In addition to celebrating National Day, the people of Sabah will also mark Sabah Day for the first time this year. Therefore, the spirit of national pride needs to be nurtured and sustained.

"The people of Sabah are encouraged to fly the national and Sabah flags to express their love and gratitude for the independence we enjoy today," she told reporters here today.

Earlier, Jainisah led the KMJG 2024 convoy as it began its tour in Penampang and Putatan today. The 14-agency convoy will travel for 20 days, making 60 stops to spread the message of national pride and love for the Jalur Gemilang.

In addition to JaPen, other participating agencies include Telekom Malaysia (TM), the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the Fire and Rescue Department, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), the Malaysian National News Agency (BERNAMA) and Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM).

Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Limbanak principal Jackson Sigo@Siga said the KMJG 2024 convoy's visit to the school today offered students an opportunity to further ignite their national pride and understand the significance of the Jalur Gemilang.

He praised the initiative as a commendable effort to enhance students' sense of identity and urged its continuation to guide future generations.

"We thank the Communications Ministry, especially JaPen (Information Department), and other agencies involved for making our school one of the stops in this journey. We hope to continue this collaboration," he said.

Student Sazz Elize Judan, 15, expressed excitement about celebrating National Month to honour the contributions of freedom fighters and hoped that the nation's prosperity would continue.

Another student, Nowell Owen Duffy Daniel, 16, hoped that Malaysia would continue to advance in various aspects and that Malaysians could live harmoniously despite their differences.
