11/08/2024 03:54 PM

KAPIT, Aug 11 (Bernama) -- Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi hopes the MADANI Village Adoption (KAM) programme will continue in the future, allowing more regions to benefit from its development initiatives.

He said if the programme continues next year or the following year, it will be extended to other areas within the Kapit parliamentary area, which includes three state constituencies.

“This year, we selected thr Katibas state constituency in the Song district. If the programme continues, I will collaborate with the Bukit Goram and Pelagus assemblymen to identify new villages for the initiative.”

He said this to reporters after the handover of letters of acceptance to two contractors selected to oversee the KAM project in Song, here today.

The Works Ministry (KKR) has chosen Nanga Engkuah Village in Ulu Katibas, Song, for the project.

The village, comprising three longhouses, namely Rumah Assan, Rumah Radiah, and Rumah Albert Lajong, houses 658 residents.

Located about 50 kilometres from Pekan Song, the village is accessible only by a three-hour river journey.

Nanta outlined that the project will involve five key developments: constructing a pedestrian bridge, installing solar lights, upgrading a jetty waiting hut and improving the walkway connecting the longhouses.

The work, to be undertaken by Syarikat Bumi Mas and Syarikat Smartech Resources, is budgeted at RM4 million and is expected to be completed within 12 months, starting this month.
