PUTRAJAYA, Aug 11 (Bernama) -- The Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) 2024 convoy concluded its tour of the peninsula today, covering the final leg of 119 kilometres around the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya (WPKLP).

Information Department (Japen) Communication Services and Community Development Division director Muhammad Najmi Mustapha said the 30 high-powered motorcycles and vehicles from various government agencies successfully completed the tour, with the final stop at Dataran Putra.

“The participants' enthusiasm was evident as they encouraged Malaysians to proudly display the Jalur Gemilang at all checkpoints across the peninsula,” he said during the KMJG 2024 convoy celebration ceremony at the WPKLP level here today.

Najmi Mustapha said the total journey spans 8,551 km, covering the peninsula, Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan.

The tour will now proceed to Sarawak, expected to conclude on Aug 26, before moving on to Sabah, where it will end on Sept 16.

Meanwhile, the Labuan KMJG event will be held for one day today, he added.

The two-day WPKLP KMJG 2024 event involved several government agencies, including the Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), the National Film Development Corporation (FINAS) and Pos Malaysia.

The convoy made stops at various locations, including Pasar Wirawati, Taman Maluri, and the Kuala Lumpur City Hall  (DBKL) Training Institute.

At Pasar Wirawati, Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities and MP for Titiwangsa Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani presented the Jalur Gemilang to local residents and traders.

Susila Food Corner operator Vasugi Shanmugam, 44, when met at the market, expressed her excitement about the event and praised the participants' enthusiasm.

"In our area too, residents support and understand each other, regardless of religion or race. This spirit of unity is what makes our country unique," she said.

Retiree Razlan Razak, 61, added that distributing the Jalur Gemilang to the public helps enhance community spirit as National Day approaches.

"Receiving this flag inspires us to decorate our homes and fully embrace National Month," he said.

The KMJG 2024 convoy which was flagged off by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on July 21, has travelled through 10 states to promote National Day celebrations.

At each stop, the information Department organised various engaging programmes for the local community.
