KMJG 2024 Travels To Pangi In Sabah's Interior

13/08/2024 06:06 PM

TENOM, Aug 13 (Bernama) -- The Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) 2024 in Sabah, which entered its sixth day today, made its way to Pangi, to enhance the celebration of National Day, Sabah Day, and Malaysia Day among the people in the interior.

Pangi, located about 130 kilometres from Kota Kinabalu and home to approximately 300 residents, predominantly from the Murut tribe, is accessible only by train, due to the lack of road infrastructure.

Tenom Member of Parliament, Riduan Rubin, joined the KMJG convoy, which began at Tenom Railway Station and travelled for 30 minutes to reach Pangi Station. The convoy was warmly received by the local residents.

Riduan, along with 60 convoy members, engaged with the community, conveying messages of patriotism and distributing Jalur Gemilang and Sabah flags.

“Our aim today is to spend time with the village community, organise social activities, and convey the government's message of fostering a strong love for the country. It is crucial for us to instil in the younger generation an appreciation for the value of independence, no matter where they are,” he told reporters, after participating in KMJG.

At Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Pangi, various community activities took place, including painting the school building and distributing donations to students.

Sabah Information Department (JaPen) director Jainisah Mohd Noor highlighted that Pangi, the 18th stop on the KMJG tour, is a unique destination this year, as it is the only location accessed by train.

“We have also provided services to the residents, including e-Kasih registration, health check-ups, blood donation drives, and free haircuts for both school students and local residents,” she said.

The KMJG 2024 convoy will cover all 25 districts in the state, travelling a total of 2,400 kilometres, and involving 14 federal and state government agencies.
