ALOR GAJAH, Aug 22 (Bernama) -- The Works Ministry has successfully completed 59 heritage building conservation and preservation projects this year, said Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

He said these efforts were expected to boost the promotion of these attractions, especially in Melaka and Penang, and draw tourists locally and abroad.

“The latest one, involving the restored Penang High Court, will be officially handed over on Aug 27. This demonstrates the dedication of all parties in preserving and conserving heritage buildings,” he told reporters today.

Earlier, Nanta officiated the Platform for Exploration: Technical and Design (PENTAS) 2024 programme at the Public Works Department’s (JKR) Centre of Excellence in Engineering and Technology (CREaTE) here, with Public Works director-general Datuk Roslan Ismail also present.

He explained that the projects encompassed conservation and preservation efforts for heritage buildings at the federal and state levels, along with advisory services and research and development initiatives by various units and agencies, including JKR.

The heritage buildings involved include Istana Budaya, Menara Condong Teluk Intan and Kuala Lumpur KTM Station.

Meanwhile, Nanta said the three-day PENTAS programme, which began today, involves 400 participants, including technical experts from the construction sectors, who will share their experiences in asset management, heritage conservation and development planning that integrates heritage and cultural elements.

“This reflects the ministry’s commitment to balancing national development with efforts to preserve the country’s cultural and heritage assets.

“Through PENTAS, it is hoped that a more integrated and comprehensive strategy can be developed to ensure that heritage-related projects meet the expectations, are executed with focus and provide direct benefits to the people and the nation’s economy,” he said.
