Agriculture Census To Continue Until Oct 10

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 23 (Bernama) -- The 2024 Agriculture Census by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), which commenced on July 7, will continue until Oct 10 to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of Malaysia’s agricultural sector.

Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin, who is also census commissioner, said the results of the census would serve as a crucial reference point for the formulation of more strategic policies within the nation’s agricultural sector.

"As of today, the overall progress of fieldwork operations has seen 623,338 agricultural holdings visited, covering 614,066 households and 9,272 organisations.

"Among the 623,338 agricultural holdings, state-level analysis shows that three states recorded the highest number of visits, with Sabah leading (134,742), followed by Johor (103,976) and Sarawak (66,196)," he said in a statement today.

He added that an estimated 1.12 million households and 20,000 organisations would be covered throughout the three-month census period.

The census activities will involve around 5,000 enumerators and fieldwork supervisors, with each enumerator expected to complete three to four questionnaires per day, he said.

"With less than two months remaining until the census deadline, the processing of forms and data capture will engage approximately 1,700 enumerators and processing supervisors nationwide," he said.

To ensure the effectiveness of the data to be produced, Mohd Uzir urged all agricultural operators involved in both upstream and downstream activities to provide accurate and honest information to the enumerators.
