PUTRAJAYA, Aug 23 (Bernama) — The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MOTAC) announced that Malaysia and India have signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) to cooperate in tourism, as well as culture, arts, and heritage.
In a statement today, MOTAC said the MoUs were exchanged between Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Datuk Tiong King Sing, and his Indian counterpart, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, during Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's official visit to India from Aug 19 to 21.
The signing ceremony, held at Hyderabad House, India, was witnessed by Anwar and his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi.
MOTAC highlighted that the tourism MoU aims to strengthen cooperation in the promotion, marketing, and development of tourism, with a focus on Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism, community-based tourism, ecotourism, and responsible tourism.
Meanwhile, the cultural MoU is expected to enhance collaboration in the cultural sector through the exchange of expertise, as well as synergies in training, research, and cultural performances, towards the development of arts, culture, and heritage products and services.
The ministry noted that the signing of these MoUs represents a significant advancement in the efforts by both nations to further strengthen diplomatic relations and enhance strategic cooperation in culture and tourism.
Recently, Anwar undertook his first official visit to India to strengthen the 67-year relationship between the two countries and to establish a future-oriented multi-sector cooperation agenda.
