IPOH, Aug 24 (Bernama) -- The number of flood victims in Perak decreased slightly tonight with 213 individuals from 56 families compared to 220 victims from 59 families housed in three relief centres (PPS) in the Muallim and Kerian districts.

The Secretariat of the State Disaster Management Committee in a statement said that in Muallim, a total of 128 evacuees from 32 families from Kampung Pasir are still being housed at the PPS Masjid Jamek Kampung Pasir while 60 individuals from 16 families from Kampung Slim Village are still being housed at PPS Masjid Jamek Slim Village.

The statement also said that 25 victims from eight families from Kampung Tebuk were also placed in the PPS Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Matang in the Larut, Matang and Selama district.

"The water level in Sungai Slim in Slim River is at a dangerous level of 24.52 metres (m) compared to the normal level of 23.5 m while 16 other rivers in the Kinta, Perak Tengah, Muallim, Kuala Kangsar, Kerian and Bagan Datuk districts are at normal levels," according to the statement.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) predicts that most districts in Perak including Larut, Matang and Selama, Kerian, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Muallim, and Hilir Perak will experience rain tonight, with only the Bagan Datuk district predicted to have good weather tonight.

Meanwhile, the Perak Public Works Department (Perak JKR) said that the state road A121 Jalan Slim River-Behrang Ulu in the Muallim district had to be closed due to the collapse of the main road while only one lane is open at the FT 004 Jalan Raya Timur Barat (JRTB) Kupang Gerik-Jeli due to the landslide.

"One of the initial actions carried out at the JRTB was to clear the area around the landslide that was blocking the path in addition to installing safety equipment to ensure that the repair work smoothly.

"The route on FT 1152 Felda Trolak Selatan in the Batang Padang district is also open to one lane for all vehicles due to a collapse on the shoulder of the road," added the statement.
