KSN Introduces Public Service Reform Framework

27/08/2024 06:33 PM

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 27 (Bernama) -- Chief Secretary to the Government (KSN) Datuk Seri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar has introduced a public service reform framework aimed at improving services, following the recent salary increase for civil servants.

He plans to present the outcomes of this reform to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim within 100 days of assuming his role as KSN on August 7.

“The reform will include reviewing overseas missions to identify possible rationalisations or reductions, and updating outdated laws and regulations that haven't been revised in 20 years.

“The framework will also focus on identifying cost-saving opportunities to minimise wasteful spending and implementing job rotations for civil servants who have been in the same position for over seven years across different ministries and departments,” he told the media after the presentation of appointment certificates for civics officers.

The event was also attended by Public Service Department (JPA) director-general Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Azizi and Akademi Kenegaraan Malaysia (AKM) director-general Datuk Mohd Haswandi Ahmad.

Shamsul Azri added that the reform framework has been positively received by the Prime Minister and that all department heads and secretaries-general support the reforms.

He emphasised that civil servants must contribute to public service in return for their recent salary increase.

Earlier, Shamsul Azri presented certificates of appointment to 58 human resource officers from key ministries and departments, who have been designated as civics officers.

This appointment is part of a proactive effort by AKM and JPA to enhance understanding and cooperation among civil servants.

These civics officers will serve as crucial links between their ministries or agencies and AKM, coordinating Malaysia MADANI activities and programmes within their respective areas.

Established earlier this year, AKM is committed to fostering collaboration across all sectors to ensure the success of the Malaysia Madani National Training Programme, which aims to strengthen knowledge of nationhood and patriotism among Malaysians.
