Lotus’s Malaysia Gives SK Pandan Jaya Science Lab A Facelift

29/08/2024 08:02 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 29 (Bernama) -- The science laboratory at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Pandan Jaya has received a facelift courtesy of Lotus’s Malaysia, with new facilities such as iron and aluminium desks and cupboards replacing the old ones.

The laboratory had been out of use for over four years due to a termite infestation.

Lotus’s Malaysia Communications and Sustainability head Hanim Hamdan said the funds for the laboratory's refurbishment came from RM150,000 raised during Lotus’s Ceria Charity Run 2023, which attracted over 3,000 participants.

“Of that amount, RM70,000 was allocated for upgrading (the laboratory), benefiting 700 students at SK Pandan Jaya, while RM80,000 was chanelled to SK Methodist ACS in Seremban, where the official handover ceremony took place on Aug 13.

“Lotus’s Ceria Charity Run 2023 is the first family-friendly running event organised by Lotus’s Malaysia, aimed at promoting an active and healthy lifestyle among Malaysians. Additionally, RM20 from each registration fee is channelled into Lotus’s #KitakanJiran Fund to provide better learning opportunities for Lotus’s adopted school students,” she said at the Laboratory Handover Ceremony at SK Pandan Jaya today.

SK Pandan Jaya senior assistant (administrative) Baharuddin Yassir and PINTAR Foundation general manager Norzalina Masom were in attendance.

Meanwhile, Hanim said that the School Adoption Programme, a joint effort between the SMART Foundation and Lotus’s Malaysia since 2016, has now expanded to 63 schools, with SK Pandan Jaya and SK Methodist ACS Seremban being among the beneficiaries.

Meanwhile, Baharuddin expressed his deep gratitude for the generous contribution made to the school and its students.

“The school welcomes any party or agency interested in contributing to the future development of SK Pandan Jaya and its students.

“Previously, during science classes, teachers were required to bring all necessary learning equipment and project materials to the classroom, which was burdensome for them and reduced the students’ enjoyment,” he said.
