Bernama Radio Adapts To Evolving Landscape, Remains Relevant After 17 Years

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 3 (Bernama) -- To stay ahead in the evolving broadcasting landscape, Bernama Radio must keep implementing reforms across different aspects, particularly in news delivery and programme content, to meet listener demands.

Bernama Radio’s adaptability to current developments ensures its continued relevance and makes it a preferred choice for listeners, even after 17 years.

Established in 2007, Bernama Radio was initially known as Radio24, a 24-hour news radio station broadcasting on FM93.9 for listeners in the Klang Valley.

Bernama Radio continuously transforms and enhances its content and service quality to cater to its audience, which comprises professionals aged 35 and above.

This includes broadening coverage to additional states, namely Johor via FM107.5, Kuching, Sarawak (FM100.9), and Kota Kinabalu, Sabah (FM107.9).

According to chief executive officer of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, Bernama Radio’s enhanced performance has helped the station achieve greater recognition and secure more sponsorship from strategic partners.

She said that economic and business reports, previously aired on the station, should be reinstated to meet listener preferences and align with the government’s desire to widely disseminate information on the MADANI economic agenda.

“It’s time for Bernama Radio to bring back the business segment, especially with the government’s encouragement for news related to the MADANI economy to be widely disseminated.

“Bernama Radio should take steps to launch a dedicated business programme,” she said during the 17th Anniversary Celebration of Bernama Radio at Wisma Bernama today.

Also present were Bernama’s editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj, deputy editor-in-chief (News Service) Nasriah Darus, deputy editor-in-chief (Economic News Service), Azlina Aziz, head of TV and Radio Broadcasting Mohd Shukri Ishak, and head of Bernama Radio Azlan Idris.

Meanwhile, Azlan said that the broadcasting platform is set to introduce a unique feature by launching a mobile radio service using a motorhome, which is expected to be available in November.

He explained that with a complete broadcasting setup and the ability to move to various locations, Bernama Radio aims to enhance its reach and set a new benchmark in the radio industry.

“This motorhome is the first of its kind in local broadcasting and Bernama will be the first broadcasting agency to use it.

“Equipped with a camera set and supported by Starlink communication transmitters, we will be able to broadcast from anywhere without worrying about internet connectivity issues,” he said.

Over the past 17 years, Bernama Radio has received several prestigious awards, including the Best Radio Report at the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI)-PETRONAS Malaysian Journalism Awards (HKM) in 2021 and 2024, as well as trophies in several categories at the Seri Angkasa Awards in 2010 and 2016.
