Malaysia To Explore Diversity Of Technology, Good Practices In TVET At WSC 2024 In Lyon, France

PUTRAJAYA,  Sept 6  (Bernama) --Malaysia will explore the diversity of technology and good practices in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector at an international level through its participation at the 2024 WorldSkills Competition (WSC 2024) to be held in Lyon, France, from Sept 10 to 16.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said WSC 2024 can serve as a venue for an international-level competition to evaluate performance and recognise skilled talent produced through the TVET programme. 

He said that through WSC 2024, the national contingent will have the opportunity to explore good practices in the TVET sector and then apply them in the implementation of the national TVET programme.

  "It is in line with the government's aspiration to recognise TVET as a driver of national economic change and the main career choice of Malaysians," he said in a statement today.

At WSC 2024, Malaysia will be represented by 15 skilled youth consisting of students from Public Skills Training Institutions and Higher Education Institutions across the country who will compete in 14 skill areas out of 62 skill areas contested.

The national contingent will compete in 14 skill areas including high-tech skill areas such as Robot System Integration, IT Software Solutions for Business, Web Technologies, Automobile Technology, Heavy Vehicle Technology and Digital Construction.

Ahmad Zahid, also National TVET Council chairman, said the government provides comprehensive support in ensuring the national contingent at the WSC 2024 has the best momentum, including intensive training with national and industry experts.

"Also, their participation in friendly competitions at national and international levels, as well as organisation of motivational programmes to strengthen the physical and mental aspects of the participants," he said.

He said the government and all Malaysians would pray for the success of the country's heroes and heroines in their efforts to excel at the WSC Lyon 2024.

"May they succeed at the international stage as this will reflect the excellence of the country's TVET sector," he said.

It was previously reported that the government is providing a special cash incentive of RM40,000 to participants who win the gold medal at the WSC in Lyon, France, RM20,000 for silver, RM10,000 for bronze and RM4,000 for the Medallion for Excellence.

Participants who win gold, silver or bronze medals in the WSC 2024 will also be awarded the Malaysian Advanced Skills Diploma (DLKM) certification by the Skills Development Department in their respective skill areas.
