Tourism Malaysia To Intensify Durian Tourism Promotions Abroad

BUKIT MERTAJAM, Sept 7 (Bernama) -- Tourism Malaysia will intensify campaigns and promotions of durian tourism packages abroad to attract more tourists to the country.

Tourism Malaysia deputy chairman Datuk Yeoh Soon Hin said the agency found that tourists, especially from China and Hong Kong really loved durians from Malaysia.

"We will continue to boost durian tourism promotions abroad according to our plans and what we are offering is that they not only enjoy durians but also other activities like seminars and the like.

"Previously, we got really good feedback (regarding durian tourism) and it isn’t just about coming to eat durian but they come over for a few days to tour and stay in hotels, eat and shop...so this will help our economy,” he told reporters after officiating the ‘Jom Durian’ B40 Prices, T20 Quality Programme here today.

He also said that Mydin’s efforts in holding corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes should serve as an example to other companies to promote durians as a tourism product.

Meanwhile Mydin Northern Region executive director Azmin Saduruddin said four tons of durian from Balik Pulau and Raub, Pahang were prepared for today’s programme at two locations, Mydin Bukit Mertajam today and Mydin Pelangi Indah, Johor on Oct 5.

He added that the programme would allow the public to enjoy a tray of durians at prices as low as RM100 for four kilogrammes of quality fruit, including Musang King, D24, XO, Udang Merah and D101 at affordable prices.
