PPPM Report Shows Improvement In Access To Education At All Levels

08/09/2024 04:20 PM

MUKAH (Sarawak), Sept 8 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia Education Development Plan (PPPM) report for 2023 launched yesterday highlights an improvement in access to education at all levels.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the improvement is particularly evident in the enrolment rates for preschool and upper secondary education and the segment selection for technical and vocational education and training (TVET).

“The gender as well as rural and urban gaps have narrowed. We hope that this disparity will be addressed promptly so that our children can enjoy the same quality of education.

“At the same time, we cannot deny there are also weaknesses and areas that need continuous improvement,” she told reporters after the ceremony to launch the PPPM report at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kampung Tellian, here.

The report also notes improvements in the quality of teacher competency in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields, awareness of the psychological well-being of students, and involvement of parents, the community, and the private sector.

It also shows that the gap in academic achievement between genders and socio-economic statuses is narrowing, and continuous improvements in special education have increased the employability of students with special education needs.

Fadhlina also officiated the opening of SK Kampung Tellian, which is a full replacement project for a dilapidated school that is now equipped with 24 new classrooms, an administrative block, and other amenities.

Fadhlina and senior management from the Education Ministry were in Sarawak for a two-day parliamentary follow-up programme in Sibu, Daro and Mukah beginning Sept 6. The programme involves visits to schools to assess issues faced by the schools and to propose solutions to the relevant parties.

The group, which also included local representatives, visited Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Jalan Oya in Sibu, SK Nanga Semah, SK Kg Kut, a teacher activity centre in Daro, SK Kg Pangtray, SMK Matu and SK Kg Pergau in Daro.
