Stay Vigilant, Adaptive And Innovative In Protecting Critical Assets – Julaihi

KUCHING, Sept 9 (Bernama) -- Sarawak must remain vigilant, adaptive, and innovative in its approach to protect the state’s critical assets, said the State Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi.

He said the security of critical infrastructure is not the responsibility of a single entity but requires coordinated efforts between government agencies and private sector partners.

“Through knowledge-sharing and collaborative development of integrated response frameworks, we stand to further strengthen our collective defence against a range of threats from cyber intrusions to physical attacks.

“As we move forward, the importance of technology cannot be understated. Whether it's leveraging on artificial intelligence (AI) for threat detection, enhancing the reliability of our telecommunications networks, or ensuring the security of our power grids, technological advancements are central to our success,” he said when opening a Critical infrastructure Security Summit here, today.

Julaihi said that technology alone is not enough as a proactive security mindset had to be cultivated across all levels of the workforce to ensure that they are well-prepared to respond to emerging threats with agility and confidence.

 Meanwhile, Sarawak Energy’s group chief executive officer, Datuk Sharbini Suhaili said as Malaysia's largest renewable energy developer and a growing regional player in Southeast Asia, Sarawak Energy understands the need to secure and strengthen its critical infrastructure to keep supporting the region's socio-economic growth.

“This summit is a crucial platform for advancing our efforts, allowing security professionals within and outside of Sarawak Energy to share experiences, strategies, and best practices, thereby enhancing our security excellence.

“The discussions today on topics such as risk management, proactive and reactive security approaches, public-private partnerships, intelligence sharing, and international collaboration will guide our approach to securing critical infrastructure,” he said.

In a statement for the summit, Sarawak Energy said the event themed ‘Building Resilience Through Security Strategies’ gathered nearly 400 security professionals from Sarawak’s agencies and corporations to discuss key challenges in safeguarding the state’s critical infrastructure and assets.
