11/09/2024 03:55 PM

ALOR GAJAH, Sept 11 (Bernama) -- The government is committed to making the student exchange programme a platform of collaboration with foreign countries as part of the effort to enhance the quality and experience of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) participants in the country, said Manpower Department director-general Datuk Rospiagos Taha.

He said this includes exchange programmes with developed countries such as Japan, China, and the United States, adding that this collaboration could have a significant impact on the country’s TVET students, ensuring that they keep up with rapidly advancing technologies.

“Foreign countries have been very open to cooperate…and we will increase our efforts in fostering tolerance and cooperation not only with Japan but also with other countries that are ahead of us in the industry. The United States is one of the countries we are currently targeting,” he said.

He spoke to reporters after officiating at the closing ceremony of the student exchange programme between the National Institute of Technology Nagaoka College (NITNC) and Melaka Advanced Technology Training Centre (ADTEC) here today, also attended by Melaka ADTEC director Dr Norhuda Salim.

He said areas of priority in the exchange programme include automotive, information and technology (ICT), and electric vehicles, which are the fastest-moving industries.

Rospiagos said to date, eight student exchange and cooperation programmes have been implemented, in addition to collaborations with local and international industries.

“We are also intensifying efforts and cooperation with local industries so that the quality of TVET programmes at industrial training institutes and ADTEC continues to improve in line with the needs of the workforce,” he said.

He said the student exchange programme between NITNC and ADTEC should continue and be enhanced to provide opportunities for participants from both countries to exchange experiences, knowledge, and aspirations.

He said since 2015, 37 lecturers and 40 students from the Department of Manpower institutes have been sent to Japan for a month, adding that ADTEC hosted 29 lecturers and 149 students from Nagaoka Kosen.
