KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 (Bernama) -- The SunMed Health Carnival, organised by Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway City (SMC), in conjunction with its 25th anniversary celebration, received encouraging response from visitors of all ages.
SMC Chief Executive Officer Dr Seow Vei Ken said the carnival, held at the Lobby of Menara D, SMC, Petaling Jaya, on Sept 8, sought to set new standards in uniting the community to expand access to education on health awareness.
"The carnival symbolises SMC's ongoing commitment to providing inclusive and excellent healthcare to the community. It serves as a fun and engaging space for people to celebrate their health and well-being.
"I believe the carnival is able to foster a strong community spirit and help educate the importance of health care by making informed decisions towards adopting a healthier lifestyle," he said in a statement today.
He said that to bridge the gap between health care and fun, carnival visitors had the opportunity to enjoy various health-themed educational activities, including memory games, hand-eye coordination, endurance, and others.
Dr Seow said that the interactive and educational activity allows participants to be more sensitive and agile and providing a meaningful learning experience.
As an essential element of Malaysia's cultural heritage, visitors also had the opportunity to showcase their creativity in batik art and craft workshops held for the first time at the carnival.
"In addition to child-friendly activities, education and batik workshops, the carnival also featured a variety of screening booths providing health checks including eye, speech and hearing, body composition, kidney and bladder health, physical rehabilitation and diabetes care", Dr Seow said, extending his appreciation to brand partners for supporting the carnival.
He expressed hope that SMC can organise more exciting and fun community programmes as part of its ongoing efforts to improve the standard of healthcare in the region, especially in conjunction with its 25th anniversary.
SMC, established in 1999, is Malaysia's largest private quaternary hospital. It is the only hospital in the country recognised with three significant accreditations, including the Gold Seal of Approval from the Joint Commission International Accreditation, the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards and the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health.
SMC has 28 centres of excellence covering over 60 medical specialities and 724 certified beds, which will increase to 1,100 beds when the sixth block is completed in the fourth quarter of 2025.
