11/09/2024 08:28 PM

KOTA KINABALU, Sept 11 (Bernama) -- Malaysian education is evolving with a strong emphasis on Industry 4.0 and Education 4.0, supported by government initiatives, said Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib.

He said this evolution is crucial for setting the future direction of Malaysia’s higher education institutions and aligning them with the nation's aspirations.

The focus, according to him, is on developing skills, integrating technology and collaborating with industry to create a responsive world-class system.

“Our goal is to produce graduates who are both technology-centric and human-centric - hi-tech and high touch - driving higher education to new levels," he said at the closing of  the World Engineering, Science and Technology Congress (ESTCON) 2024 here today.

He said ESTCON 2024 is centred around the theme 'Future Positioning through Sustainable Energy, Digitalisation and Smart Community,' exploring energy transition and transformation to foster sustainable living.

“ESTCON 2024 addresses the contemporary trends and challenges across various disciplines in innovation, engineering and technology. The Congress has made significant strides in realising the theme of 'Future Positioning through Sustainable Energy, Digitalisation, and Smart Community,'” he said.

Mohamed Ibrahim added that by embracing the latest advancements in technology and sustainability, ESTCON remains not only relevant but also a leader in shaping the future.

The Congress featured 560 papers presented by participants from 25 countries and was attended by over 1,000 delegates, including around 250 non-presenter delegates, highlighting its growth and impact.

He said UTP’s efforts in promoting sustainable energy, driving digital transformation and fostering smart communities demonstrate the university’s proactive approach to addressing future challenges and opportunities.

“We are not just responding to trends; we are setting them, constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible and positioning ourselves at the forefront of global progress. This forward-thinking mindset allows us to anticipate future needs and create impactful solutions that benefit society as a whole,” he said.

As a testament to UTP’s commitment to advancing research, innovation and commercialisation, he introduced the UTP Ignite Website, a dedicated hub showcasing groundbreaking innovations from the university.

“The UTP Ignite Website is a gateway to the pioneering research and technologies being developed by our talented researchers.

"Through this platform, potential investors, industry partners and collaborators can gain in-depth insights into our innovative solutions, including dynamic three-minute videos featuring 18 of our most promising technologies," he added.
