KOTA BHARU, Sept 15 (Bernama) -- The International Generative AI Art Competition 2024 (school category), held from June 6 to July 30, attracted more than 60 entries from Malaysia, Indonesia, and Egypt, highlighting the growing interest in artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

Exhibition curator Prof Ahamad Tarmizi Azizan who is also the president of the Malaysian Animation Educators Association (PPAM), said that through the competition, students from Kelantan and Sabah have made the country proud by showing outstanding performance.

According to him, a preschool student from Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Seri Ketereh, Kota Bharu, was crowned champion. The second place was awarded to a student from SK Bukit Abal, Pasir Puteh, while the third place went to a student from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Kampung Chengal, Kota Bharu.

Additionally, the 10 best works also recognized schools from Kelantan and Sabah, such as SK Sungai Nafas, SK Bawang, and SMK Beluran, as well as participants from Penang, Indonesia, and Egypt.

“The standout achievement came from preschool student Atiya Raisa Anizam of SK Seri Ketereh, who won first place with her entry, 'Education for Tomorrow.' Her work, which blends elements of traditional Kelantan art with AI technology, captivated the juries with its creativity and innovative approach,” he said in a statement today.

Commenting further, Ahamad noted that over 200 works from 15 countries were exhibited across various categories, including academics, professionals, artists, and students from higher education institutions and schools.

He explained that the evaluation was conducted by a panel of professional juries from Malaysia, Indonesia, Iraq, Thailand, Egypt, Germany, China, and Turkiye. The panel, consisting of academics, international artists, graphic experts, and technology specialists, assessed the works based on innovation, aesthetics, and the integration of AI in art.

“The works on display showcase a remarkable level of creativity and technical skill. This achievement highlights not only the talent of students from Kelantan and Sabah but also the immense potential of generative AI art in Malaysia.

“This competition not only acknowledges young talent but also supports the growth of the country’s digital economy. By encouraging students to explore the possibilities of generative AI art, it helps open up opportunities for Malaysia to make a significant impact on the international digital art scene,” he said.
